IGON - 250 / 500

Each vial contains -
sterile ceftriaxone sodium USP
Eq. to ceftriaxone--- 250 mg / 500 mg
sterile water for injection I.P.--- 5 ml

IGON - 1000

Each vial contains -
sterile ceftriaxone sodium USP
Eq. to ceftriaxone--- 1000 mg
sterile water for injection I.P.--- 10 ml

CATEGORY -  antibiotic

                            3rd generation parenteral cephalosporin

MODE OF ACTION

IGON inhibits the cell wall synthesis of bacteria by binding to target proteins and kills the bacteria

PHARMACOKINETICS

bioavailability   100 %
t 1/2             6-9 hr
excretion 40- 50% through urine in adults and 70% in neonates.

INDICATIONS

1 life threatening infections
2 typhoid fever
3 bacteraemia / septicaemia
4 bacterial meningitis
5 urinary tract infections
6 gonococcal infections
7 lower respiratory infections and pneumonia
8 acute bacterial otitis media
9 skin and soft tissue infections
10 bone and joint infections
11 prophylaxis of post operative infections

DOSAGE

adults- 1 - 2 g once daily , or twice daily
neonates / children - 50 -70 mg /kg IM/IV once in a day

MAX. DOSAGE

adult 4 gram /day
paediatrics 2 gram / day

PREGNANCY -----------------category B ( Can be given 2nd trimester onwards )
LACTATION ------------------can be given
PEDIATRICS ------------------safe in neonates
HEPATIC IMPAIRMENT ---no dose adjustment required

CONTRA INDICATIONS

IGON is contraindicated in patients with known allegy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics.

ADVERSE EFFECTS

IGON can cause diarrohea , fever , pruritus , anaphylaxis

SALIENT FEATURES

1 IGON has relatively longer half life as compared to other 3rd generation cephalosporins
2 Stable against beta lactamase
3 Antibacterial activity of IGON starts immediately even after an  IM dose.
4 Serum concentration after 24 hrs provides sufficient antibacterial activity against many organisms like S. pneumoniae , S . pyogenes , S . aureus , klebsiella sp. , H. influenzae , M. catarrhalis , E. coli , Proteus mirabilis
4 Highly potent against most of the gram +ve and -ve respiratory pathogenes.
5 Once daily dosing  convenience
6 Anti bacterial activity of IGON against gram -ve is stronger that of oral cephalosporin.
